SPARKS
THE NUMBER ONE SONG IN HEAVEN
(ORIGINAL LONG 12" VERSION)
(ORIGINAL LONG 12" VERSION)
Sparks has an incredible history that spans five decades, from inception in the late 1960s LA club scene, through adoption by English fans in the middle 1970s, electronic experimentation in the late 1970s, and finally breaking through in the US of the early 1980s, a cinematic sojourn at the end of that decade with a return to form in the mid 1990s which continues to this day as they continue to push the boundaries of pop music. In 1979 Sparks released their 8th album Number One In Heaven. This album resulted in the most dramatic change of style the band would attempt in their history. Sparks dropped the band format altogether and teamed up with the Giorgio Moroder whose groundbreaking work with synthesizers during the 1970s was a significant influence on new wave, techno and electronic music in general. Number One In Heaven is regarded as a landmark in the development of electronic music and greatly influenced bands which would emerge in the following years.
The Number One Song In Heaven is one of 3 singles released from the album. The track reached #14 in the UK singles charts with the album going to #73 in the UK album charts.

I'm not doubting the label on the Single cover, But that's the same length (7:30) as the song on the album.
Yes, they did release long versions from albums on independent 12" singles back then as well.
Suggestion: Beat The Clock and Tryouts For the Human Race, two-sided 12", more disco than new wave, but still a lot of fun.
I am utterly blown away by what I can only describe as this blisteringly pumping, Giorgio Moroder slice of sheer brilliance.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Just a short note to say thanks for sharing and what wonderful quality on these files. I have a lot of the vinyl, and it's great to play it now on my iPod. Although I am tempted to start ripping my own wax to mp3..... any tips? Software you use? Oh, and if you know anywhere Belouis Some stuff is posted, hit me up! He's my fave.
Sparks have been sadly mostly forgotten but their hit singles here in Australia, "This Town Ain't Big Enough" & "When I'm With You" remain greatly loved by me.
