ZZ Top formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas and are one of the few rock bands that hold the distinction of being still composed of its original recording members after more than 35 years and until September 2006, the same manager/producer, Bill Ham. The band reached the peak of their commercial success in the 1970s and 1980s, scoring many hit songs during that era.During the 1980s ZZ Top acquired a distinctive synthesizer-laced sound—a rarity in the blues rock genre—which added a modern, electronic edge to their music, and helped the group bring in a new height of success.
In 1985 the band released the single Sleeping Bag which was from their ninth studio album Afterburner. This was the follow-up album to 1983's Eliminator and was very succesful, going several times platinum and launching several hit singles with the Sleeping Bag being the most successful reaching #1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and #8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
